The Hack

Writer: Team 16Team 16

In this blog we will talk about the chessboard, the grid system and the considerations we took when making the chessboard.

During the hack stage we first started with the base of the game which was the chessboard. We created the chessboard as the base of the game because we wanted to see where the chess pieces were going to spawn onto so that when it comes to dealing with the grid system, we program the board to spawn the chess pieces. The grid system was the most important part of the game, reason being is that it allows the pieces to spawn onto, if there was not grid system then the chess pieces would not appear on the allocated tiles on the board. In the process of creating the chessboard we took into consideration the width and length of the board but not just that, the size of the chess pieces because it had to be a good fit size for the pieces to fit onto. We created prototype chess pieces to start off the game with, we did this as we wanted to see where the pieces were going to spawn onto. Some pieces would’ve spawned in wrong tiles (like the middle of the board), having that in mind allows us to assess what pieces we would like, not just that creating prototype pieces allows us to play around, also have the prototype pieces laid out in a line as chess piece should be for each player.
